Set up your new MacBook

The first time your MacBook Pro starts up, a Setup Assistant walks you through the simple steps needed to start using your new Mac.

Be sure to connect your Macbook to our Network using an Ethernet cable, as a network connection is needed for the setup. For accessing the wireless networks MPIM and eduroam you need to install a mobileconfig file for OS X (after the initial setup). A detailed version can be found here.

Your Apple ID is the account you use for everything you do with Apple - including using the App Store, the iTunes Store, iCloud, Messages, and software updates. Your Apple ID consists of an email address and a password. You need only one Apple ID to use any Apple service.

If you don't already have an Apple ID, you can create one using your MPI Email Address.

For accessing the wirless networks MPIM and eduroam you first need to finish the initial setup on your Macbook and download a mobileconfig file.

You can download the mobileconfig either from our Wiki (Tools and Software → Network → Wireless → Wireless Apple Mac OS X) or you can visit https://cat.eduroam.org/ if you are not connected to our network.

Click on the downloaded mobileconfig file to start the installation.

Choose “Continue”.

• Username: firstname.lastname@mpimet.mpg.de
  (Note: If your username is firstname.lastname-mpi, you need to enter -mpi as well: firstname.lastname-mpi@mpimet.mpg.de
• Password: <your account password>

After entering your credentials you may be asked to enter your OS X account password.
